Day 3
You’ll drive with our professional guide to Tarangire National Park, which is famous for the thousands of elephants that gather during the dry season in search of water. The park is also home to wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, and hippos. Tarangire features a varied, rugged, and hilly landscape centered around a winding river where many animals come to drink. The park is also famous for its massive baobab trees, yellow acacias, small swamps, and palm trees. Spend the day on a full-day game drive, then return to your lodge in Karatu.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area stretches from Serengeti National Park in the north to the Great Rift Valley in the east. Covering more than 8,000 km² (3,200 sq. miles), it includes Ngorongoro Crater, Ndutu, Olduvai Gorge, Empakaai, Olmoti Crater, and Oldonyo Lengai Mountain. This diverse landscape of forests, valleys, savannahs, craters, lakes, and swamps supports a wide range of wildlife. The main feature of the area is the famous Ngorongoro Crater, formed two to three million years ago when a large volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself, creating a unique ecosystem with varied vegetation. The crater is home to zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, baboons, elephants, flamingos, ostriches, and hippos. It also supports a high population of predators, including lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and leopards. One of the main attractions is the presence of the “Big Five:” buffaloes, elephants, leopards, lions, and rhinos. Later, you’ll drive back to Arusha.
After breakfast, you will depart for Lake Manyara National Park for game drives, carrying lunch boxes with you. The park is known for its tree-climbing lions and numerous colonies of baboons that inhabit the forest and are often seen along the road as you enter. After the game drive, you will be transferred to Mto wa Mbu, a unique destination offering cross-cultural interactions not easily found elsewhere in Africa. Its ideal location near the Rift Valley escarpment and Lake Manyara makes it a great place to explore Africa’s natural environment through experiences such as a Maasai market tour, local food tasting, visiting a Maasai boma, and other memorable activities.
